Not too far today - only 17km - but significant in that Sahagún is the official half way point.
George and I have also discovered why beds seem very booked up at the moment - a party of 50 Italians, school pupils and teachers, are passing through! They are only doing a section of the Camino, though, so it's a temporary thing. We're planning on attending Mass tonight at a monastically run Albergue which was too full to book into (guess who's booked 50 beds there!) but in turning down the reservation request said 'but you're still welcome to come to the Mass here'. Could be a full Mass!
I'm not entirely convinced by the arithmetic - the pilgrim passport issued in St-Jean-Pied-de-Port gives the whole distance as 764km (so half would be 382), and Sahagún at 356km from Santiago - which would mean I passed half way yesterday! On the other hand milestones here say 370km to Santiago. Which would be just over half way from Roncesvalles, the first place on the route actually in Spain. Whatever, it's still a good feeling.
It's been damp this morning - a mixture of drizzle, spitting, actual rain, and dry intervals enticing you to remove the anorak and backpack cover, only to revert to rain minutes later. It makes for interesting contrasts for pictures. Still a lot of wheat, but not nearly as monotonous as yesterday's first section.
We've booked for tomorrow at Reliegos, which is a long day, but leaves us within striking distance of Leon - and probably ahead of the large group.
