Lots of strategic discussions about how to split distances and we (Denise, George and I) ended up with a 17km day. We'd ideally have gone further but there was fairly limited accommodation in the two towns after this, and they weren't replying to messages, so we went for a small and rather quirky Albergue at Atapuerca.
It wasn't really necessary to leave Villafrancia early, but lots of people were getting up and going. So I set off up the fairly sharp hill just as the sun started to make its presence felt. Then it was a good steady walk to San Juan de Ortega, where there was breakfast, shared with a friend....
Somewhere around San Juan de Ortega was the one third mark. It's a bit confusing because the distances given in different resources vary, but San Juan is shown on the pilgrim passport as 502km from Santiago, with the start at 762km.
And here an English couple, Tim and Janna, have turned up, who live in Ludlow and whose son is coming out to walk with them for a few days - and it seems he's in the same flight as Ben will be!
